The background story of TerraBags

It all started with an irritation that we can buy plastic bags at the supermarket checkout. Why do we buy plastic bags that may only be used once?
Why don’t we use more solid, strong bags?
Why do we all consume so much?
Away with that consumer society!
Away with those cheap plastic bags that tear when you put something heavy in them!
Embrace the future, embrace progress in technology and science!
This is the founder:
Carlos
Carlos wanted to make strong bags from a material that has already proven itself in this world. Not bags that you can only use once. Bags that can last a lifetime, so to speak. Bags that you can load heavily and lift without having to worry about the bag tearing under the load.
And so the story of Carlos Thijsen and TerraBags began. A search for a material that is strong enough for heavy loads and is tear-resistant. Those were the minimum requirements. In addition, they had to find yarn that was just as strong as the fabric.
After the fabric and yarn had been purchased, Carlos visited his wife’s grandmother to assemble the very first prototype bag. Grandma would not make it easy for Carlos. Without any experience in cutting to size and operating a sewing machine, Carlos was mercilessly put to work to assemble the prototype bag himself. Grandma supported every step of the way with expert advice and assistance.
After 2 afternoons, the prototype was finished. An orange bag, extremely strong, tear-resistant, water-repellent and flexible enough to roll up/fold into a small package.
After this prototype had been tested extensively with groceries, holidays and all kinds of other chores, it was time for a real first production bag produced in a real sewing workshop.

The first production bag was also tested extensively and the enthusiasm to continue with the vision grew ever greater.
Now the time had come for a bigger test.
Producing 10 bags in a real sewing workshop. The fabric color blue was chosen by Carlos’ son. Acquaintances, friends and family were asked to test, use and abuse the bags.
Feedback was repeatedly asked. The test bags were used (and abused) by everyone. The test was a success and in the meantime a lot of thought was given to a name, a website and all the other things you need to arrange before you can start a company.
The result is this website. The funny thing is that the picture of the blue bag that you can see at the top of the Home page is a picture of the production bag that was made after 1 year of testing. That bag still looks like new don’t you think?
